Here's my In-depth Analysis is on the youngest player in the draft: Darko Milicic. It's said the Pistons will be taking this said to be "monster" with the number two pick in the draft. Pistons got the pick from the Otis Thorpe trade to the Vancouver Grizzlies. Vancouver is now Memphis. If Memphis did not get number one, whatever pick they got would go to Detroit. The Pistons are a lucky team, getting to the Eastern Conference Finals and getting the number two pick in the draft. Darko came to Detroit and did some workouts. Joe Dumars, the Pistons GM, was said to have been speechless. Will Robinson said Pistons should take him. There was nothing that could stop him. He would become a monster. Will Darko be a monster? Will he help the Pistons? The Answer is Yes. The Pistons lack two things, rebounding and offense. Both things that Darko can bring to the team. Darko is an all around player. Only thing he lacks is a good free throw shot. Darko, a big man at 7-1, can hit the outside shot. A rare thing for a big man. Darko has an attitude of "I want to show that I'm bigger and better than everybody" This is sometimes a good attitude but not always. Darko will be effective with Rip. Rip is know to run off screens. Darko has provided this to his team overseas. They didn't like the ball getting to Darko. They are jealous of him. Even though said to be inconsistent, he has awhile to work on that. Added to the fact that rookies can be inconsistent. He can nail a 20 footer consistently though. He's a very aggressive player and will do whatever it takes to win. Tall enough to fulfill the rebounding needs? Yes. With Ben and Darko, we will grab more boards and win almost every game in board statistics. He has solid court vision. Something that is great to have in the NBA. Many people are praised for it. Said to have a hesitation move. This can kill the opponnet, letting you get the shot off until he learns. Then he can just do something else when the defender is not expecting that. Can adjust to what the defenders give him, making him a bigger offensive threat. He drives without fear, he will take it to the hoop. Although he lacks upper body strength, this is being fixed as we speak. This kid puts his heart into the game. Has a nice soft touch around the basket. The two reasons why the Pistons didn't win it all, Rebounding and lack of Offense, can and will be fixed by Darko. He is young and will be even better as he goes on. Because he's so young and keeps in shape, he'll be able to play for a long time. Look for him to play around 13 or 14 years. BREAK DOWN Milicic is aggressive, he has an all around game. He’s strong on the boards. He has good ball-handling skills. He is quick, with a great understanding of the game (he is smart as a fox). He can kill you from the perimeter but he’s never going to be a center. It would be such a waste for such a talent to be battling against 280 pounders. No Nowitzki, no Gasol should ever be playing in the paint. Only when playing against a zone defense of 2-3 or 2-1-2 is it logical to have an all-around tall guy causing troubles in the weak side of the opponents’ defense. 2-4 is for him. He's tough as nails against tall men of 210-220 pounds. I don’t see many PFs’ of 210 in the NBA. He will never play center in the NBA because it would be a waste of his talents. He is one of the biggest hopes of Yugoslavian basketball in his generation and that alone is something, considering the strength of Yugoslavian basketball. Very tall, agile, mobile player with tons of upside. Just has to continue to develop and he's a future NBA player. His outlook is very good considering the Yugoslavian basketball system is very good at developing players. He was thrown into the Seniors level this year and did a very impressive job for 16-17 year old. Possibly the top NBA prospect at any age in Europe. He plays in Hemofarm. He dunks in traffic, dribbles and goes 1 on 1 like a guard, scores on the pull-up jumper, passes well and blocks shots. I've never seen a player like him at 16-17. It's really something and he could bring a lot to this basketball team. By: Pistonsgoingtowork 6-16-03 |
