Larry Brown Finalizes Coaching Staff
The Detroit Pistons named Mike Woodson and Igor Kokoskov assistant coaches today, and also hired Herb Brown as a special assistant to the coaching staff.

Woodson, the second assistant in Philadelphia under new Piston coach Larry Brown, will serve as Brown's top aide in Detroit after being passed over in Philadelphia for the head coaching job that went to former Brown lead assistant Randy Ayers.

Kokoskov joins the Pistons from the Los Angeles Clippers, where he spent three years as an assistant coach to former Piston head coach Alvin Gentry and interim head coach Dennis Johnson. Kokoskov's primary responsibilities will be big man development and to serve as a mentor for Serbian rookie center Darko Milicic.

Herb Brown, who served as head coach of the Detroit Pistons during the 1970s, returns to his brother Larry's services after a two year stint as an assistant coach to Maurice Cheeks, another former Larry Brown assistant, in Portland. Brown will handle some scouting and player development.

The Pistons also announced that Bobby Ociepka, an assistant coach hired by Joe Dumars who served under Rick Carlisle the past two seasons and also under Alvin Gentry in 1998-99, will not be retained.

The Pistons coaching staff now looks as follows:

Head Coach: Larry Brown
Lead Assistant Coach: Mike Woodson
Assistant Coach: John Kuester
Assistant Coach: Dave Hanners
Assistant Coach: Igor Kokoskov

Special Assistant Coach: Herb Brown

Head Athletic Trainer: Mike Abdenour
Strength & Conditioning Coach: Arnie Kander

Advance Scout/Assistant Coach: Brendan O'Connor
